Dear Friend,

Join us for a virtual rally on September 6th from 4 to 8 pm to tell Governor Cuomo and the state's Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) how you feel about dirty gas drilling and hydraulic fracturing or "fracking."

New York's leaders are preparing to release a 1,000-page document that could guide how fracking proceeds in New York. Although DEC Commissioner Martens and Governor Cuomo will make an official announcement on the comment period when they release the fracking environmental impact review, they currently only plan to give New Yorkers 60 days to read it and share their concerns. Sixty days is not enough! New Yorkers deserve at least 180 days to weigh in on this review, formally known as the revised draft Supplemental Generic Environmental Impact Statement (“SGEIS”).

The DEC is set to release the SGEIS next week.  We will update you on Tuesday if DEC announces a longer comment period before the rally.  In the meantime, please prepare to make one final push!  Join us by posting pictures, videos, and comments on Governor Cuomo's Facebook page and tweet him, too. Click here for details about how to do it!

New Yorkers deserve a more deliberative approach to determine if shale gas extraction is appropriate in this state and how the shale gas industry and fracking will be regulated in the years to come. That’s why Riverkeeper is joining with organizations from across New York State to send a clear message to the Governor and the state's environmental agency that New Yorkers need more time - #180daysforNY.

Find details on how to post to Governor Cuomo's Facebook page and reach out to him on Twitter.
